The Great Bear

Jonathan, 11, usually spends his vacations alone with his grandfather who lives on the edge of a vast forest populated by mythical animals. This year his kid sister Sophie joins him. But it’s not cool to be stuck with a little sister, so he does what he can to avoid her. He succeeds entirely too well: Sophie is kidnapped by a giant, 1000-year-old bear. Now, Jonathan has to venture into the heart of the forest to confront the strange beings that dwell there and rescue his sister

Dove Review

Jonathan and Sophie are typical siblings that argue and pick on each other. But when Sophie gets to go along with Jonathan to their grandfathers, he believes his vacation is ruined. Grandfather has only one request for the two of them and that is for them to stay in the garden and to not go into the Great Forest.

When Sophie tries to help and also pesters Jonathon in his tree house it falls to the ground and a chase begins. She runs and opens the gate to the strange forest that they both were told not to go in. Jonathan follows her when she disappears. There they discover many strange and different things as they begin an adventure that they will never forget.

This is one of those animated films filled with adventure, fantasy and mystery and also a lesson about how to treat others, especially siblings, family and creatures. Also it is about apologizing when you do wrong things. The Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for 12+ is awarded to this film. Younger children may watch it but due to many scary scenes, it may be too frightening for them.
