You don’t have to “bend” over backward for “Gumby’s Best Episodes, Vol. 1.” This wonderful DVD is now available for viewers everywhere. You can “stretch” your imagination while watching these episodes. Follow Gumby and his faithful horse and companion Pokey for several adventures in this video. In one episode, titled “Tree Trouble,” these delightful figurine-like animated characters search for buried treasure. The moral of this episode is that plunging ahead without getting permission leads to trouble, as it does for Gumby and Pokey, not to mention three “eager” beavers. Most of these stories contain a moral or two and lots of bendable fun with Gumby.
In “Lion Drive,” Richard the lion tries his hand at driving, which turns out to be a disaster. The lesson in this episode is that driving isn’t for Richard, just as some activities aren’t meant for kids. In “Yard Work Made Easy,” Gumby is mowing the lawn and doing yard work, when Pokey tempts him to come play. They get some robots to do the work, but it turns out disastrous. One robot pours yellow paint on Gumby’s head and another one hits him with a hoe. Gumby learns that sometimes work just needs to finished before he can play.
Gumby and Pokey visit the old west and even meet dinosaurs in this collection. A witch shows up in one episode and captures Gumby and Pokey, but later she plays a piano recital for the prisoners and tells them she wants a “captive” audience. She makes them laugh with something she does and tells them that it was her idea all along, just to make them laugh. A few characters, including the witch, might frighten very young children, but most of the content of this collection is pretty mild. For that reason, we award this DVD our Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages and encourage parents to consult our content listing to make their own informed choices. Join Gumby and Pokey for a good time and own this collection so you can be “flexible” and watch it at your own leisure.
