Dove Review

“A Star is Born” is the story of a young country girl who has big dreams of becoming a star in Hollywood. When Esther’s grandmother encourages her to follow her dreams, she leaves her small community for the land of stars and studios.

Esther makes friends with a man named Danny, who gets her a job as a waitress at a party, which a lot of producers and stars are attending. As she does her best to impress everyone there, she meets Norman Maine, a Hollywood star. Norman is attracted to her and helps her reach her goal. They eventually fall in love and marry. Unfortunately, Norman’s career is ending, due to his drinking problem, but Esther’s begins to soar.

Janet Gaynor stars in this classic romantic picture about following your heart. As her grandmother states in the movie, only you can break your heart when you follow your dreams. This film also shows the problems of alcohol addiction and how it can ruin people’s lives.

This classic version of “A Star is Born” is awarded the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12-plus.
