Urmel, Season 1

Urmel, Season 1

An animated re-envisioning of Urmel’s adventures on the island of Titiwu, based on the books by Max Kruse.

Dove Review

Urmel Season 1 is a funny and creative animated series about several animal characters including Urmel, Pip, Shoehorn, Toots, and many others. The plots are outlandish—including one in which Toots, a pig, falls and winds up sitting on what she thinks is porridge. But no! It is actually a super sticky glue, and the dilemma becomes how to uproot her from her possible permanent residence! Shoehorn is a bit of a klutz, a bird that crashes into class (literally), flies into a lamppost and is a well-meaning character if not exactly graceful. In another episode, the gang dreams of finding a buried treasure, so they take to the sea to become pirates. Rest assured, it will not go the way they envision!

There are 26 episodes in this first season, which features interesting storylines and humorous characters, and the good guys always win out in the end. With the comedy, pratfalls, and great animation, what’s not to like?

There are moments of mild violence such as characters falling or crashing into things, but the kindness and sweetness of the characters, who are there for one another, makes this a good choice for kids. They will be entertained and educated in moral values.

The Dove Take

This series features themes of teamwork and good triumphing over evil. As previously mentioned, there are a few mild moments of pratfalls and violence here and there and a “Shut up” in a few scenes, but overall it is easy for us to recommend this series for the entire family. It has earned our Dove Approved All Ages Seal.
