Frank Morrison (John Travolta), a divorcee, he has decided to play nice with his ex-wife and work extra hard to keep up a solid relationship with his twelve-year old son Danny (Matthew O’Leary). However, in recent months, Danny has shown a propensity for acting out inner emotions and getting in trouble with the law. Plus, there is a new man in mom’s life, Rick Barnes (Vince Vaughn), who local people know little about, but appears very successful and a fine prospect for a husband. However, after Rick marries his mom, Danny witnesses Rick’s involvement in a gruesome crime. But because of Danny’s past actions, no one will believe him – except his dad, who must try to prove Danny’s claims.
This PG-13 film includes a fair amount of foul language, including two f-words, six s-words, and fifteen strong profanities. Despite the title, violent content is generally light until the climactic scene, which portrays an endless spate of violent fighting. While nothing severely graphic occurs, violent acts include a man hit with a shovel and another suffering electrocution. The strong language makes DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE more disturbing.
