Brokeback Mountain

Theatrical Release: December 9, 2005
Brokeback Mountain

A raw story of two young men, a Wyoming ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 shepherding in the harsh, high grasslands of contemporary Wyoming and form an unorthodox yet life-long bond–by turns ecstatic, bitter and conflicted.

Dove Review

What little dialog the film contained was heavy with profanity, and I’m surprised at the sexual content they were able to include and still garner an “R” rating. It isn’t an exaggeration when the critics highlight the heart-wrenching nature of this film. While it is based on the homosexual relationship that develops between two cowboys, the film reaches beyond that relationship and explores the destructive consequences that their adulterous meetings have on the respective families.

There are many disturbing scenes in the film. In one, a man brings his two young children to see the bloody corpse of an elderly homosexual cowboy who had been dragged across the desert by his penis. Another shocker was the sight of Anne Hathaway of “The Princess Diaries” having sexual intercourse in the backseat of a car, bare breasts included. While this film is sure to be at the forefront of debate, both positively and negatively, for a long time, one thing is clear – it doesn’t meet the standards set for a family-friendly seal.
