Synopsis

El Mariachi just wants to play his guitar and carry on the family tradition. Unfortunately, the town he tries to find work in has another visitor…a killer who carries his guns in a guitar case. The drug lord and his henchmen mistake El Mariachi for the killer, Azul, and chase him around town trying to kill him and get his guitar case.

Dove Review

” El Mariachi,” with unknown Carlos Gallardo in the title role, is the low-budget prequel to the blockbuster movie, “Desperado.” The Mariachi is a nameless wandering musician, who carries a huge guitar case and dresses in black. In the process of seeking work in a new city, he is mistaken for a ruthless gangland assassin, who as luck would have it also dresses in black, and carries a similar guitar case-although the assassin’s case has a hidden compartment loaded with artillery. The hapless Mariachi learns to kill in self-defense, and also finds time to romance a local beauty by the name of Domino (Consuelo Gomez). She is the part-time mistress of the local drug dealer who is trying to kill the Mariachi.

This movie is inappropriate for Dove families. There is lots of violence, gunplay, and implied sex. However, the movie does have it quirks and frequent ironies that makes it entertaining. The movie is filmed in Spanish and subtitled in English. However, due to the violence and drugs, it is not family approved by Dove.
