Synopsis

In this tragedy masked as a comedy, the personal life of disgruntled Chicago weather man Dave Spritz (Nicolas Cage) is unraveling. Separated from his wife, he tries desperately and unsuccessfully to connect with his children. His only hope is to land a lucrative job on the nationally syndicated TV show Hello America hosted by Bryant Gumbel. But as a weather man, he gets little respect from others, evidenced when people throw food at him from passing cars. To make matters worse, he feels like a disappointment to his Pulitzer Prize winning father (Michael Caine), who is sadly diagnosed with lymphoma and has little time to live. Believing success in broadcasting will lead to personal success, Spritz auditions as the weather man for the popular TV show while there is a crisis at home. He learns a brutal lesson that life can be unpredictable, much like the weather he forecasts.
