36 Parables: Purple
This is the second DVD in a series of short films based on the parables of Jesus. For nearly 2,000 years, the parables of Christ have instructed and inspired. Now, three of these powerful stories are re-told for today’s audiences; “Purple” is one in a series of 12 DVDs, known as “36 Parables.” Each DVD in the series contains short films depicting three beloved parables in modern situations. Presented in letterbox format with surround sound, the films are thought provoking teaching tools that capture the mind and heart.
Out of reach: Based on the Parable of the Friend at Midnight (Luke 11:5-8). A young girl tries to persuade her father to let her play with his antique fire truck.
The Car Lot: Based on the Parable of the Shrewd Manager (Luke 16:1-13). A car salesman is forced to think creatively in order to obtain a new job.
Sean: Based on the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (Luke 13:6-9). A high school teacher fights for a student facing expulsion.
Modern stories make up the three parables in this DVD based on various Biblical parables. In “Out of Reach,” a young girl is determined to play with a toy firetruck her father has put away. In “The Car Lot” a young man who is fired from his job gives a great deal to a man buying a car, who in turn hires him for his own business. And in “Sean,” a teacher gives a student a second chance.
I found “The Car Lot” to be particularly well done and the DVD includes special features titled: “Why Parables?” and “Scripture,” and finally “Behind the Scenes.” This DVD drives home spiritual points which the very young might not catch, but they will certainly enjoy the kids playing with the firetruck. We recommend this DVD for all ages.
