Dove Review

This is a fascinating psychological thriller which takes a few interesting twists and turns. The film begins by relaying a statistic: over 21,000,000 people receive anesthesia every year. 30,000 of these people are not so fortunate. They remain awake during surgery. Enter Clay Beresford, a twenty-two-year old rich businessman who inherited his father’s wealth. He is in love with beautiful Samantha Lockwood (Jessica Alba). However, his life is not an ideal one. He needs a heart transplant and is running out of time. He wants the doctor who once saved his life (Terrence Howard) to perform the operation. His domineering mother wants her own highly respected surgeon to do the surgery. The conflict deepens when she learns her son is planning to marry Samantha. She disapproves. When the surgery actually takes place, young Clay can hear everything being said; and what’s worse, he can feel the pain as the knife begins to cut.

This film includes graphic scenes of the heart and of surgery, and sadly includes very strong language and a pre-marital sexual relationship. We cannot award our Dove Seal to this film as a family-friendly picture.
