Anne of Avonlea (2 Disc Set)
This TV show was made by the BBC and is based on the novel Anne of Avonlea by author L.M. Montgomery. The character of Anne Shirley (Kim Braden) is reprised from the beloved children’s classic Anne of Green Gables. Now moving toward adulthood, Anne takes a job as a schoolteacher on the picturesque north shore of Canada’s Prince Edward Island. Exciting new adventures lie in store, as her life at Green Gables takes unexpected turns with the arrival of two orphans and the realization that college is no longer a dream. Through marriage proposals from suitors, the sale of her first story and sharing a cottage with friends, Anne holds on to her memories of Avonlea and discovers life and love on her own terms. A five and half hour DVD collection of the mini series.
I love the story of Anne of Green Gables, which is why I enjoyed this series of “Anne of Avonlea.” Even as an adult Anne still seems to find trouble and continually puts her foot in her mouth. Her innocent charm makes up for her downfalls as she deals with adult issues. She still has her wild imagination but has put it to good use when she becomes a school teacher.
Anne and Marilla take in two orphans, which puts college on hold for Anne. Anne learns about herself while taking care of children and eventually going to college. She searches for her true love only to find he had been there all along. The acting, sets and props are very well done and, along with the change in location during the story, the plot moves forward and remains interesting. We happily award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to “Anne of Avonlea.”
