The Cosby Show – Box Set: Season 6

The Cosby Show appeared on NBC from 1984 to 1992, becoming one of the most popular programs in the history of television. The Cosby Show depicted a close-knit and prosperous African-American family (The Huxtables) that dwelled in New York City. Dr. Heathcliff (OB-GYN) and Clair (attorney) Huxtable were a happily married, dual-profession couple with aspirations of raising their five children in an uplifting, positive environment. The Cosby Show held TV’s #1 slot for a record five consecutive years (1985 to 1990) and stayed in the Top 20 shows for all eight seasons it was on NBC.

Dove Review

Once again “The Cosby Show” starts with a bang. In the beginning of this sixth season Denise comes home from Africa with quite a surprise; she’s married with a young step-daughter. This season introduces Olivia played by a very young Raven Simone. I must say she is a great addition to the Huxtable cast with her adorable faces and grand imagination. I love her argument with Cliff over how babies arrive (by stork of course!). Just when Cliff thinks he can finally empty his home of some of his children they come back….with extras. This storyline continues through the season with much added humor.

There are also some serious issues as the brainy Vanessa turns to teen rebellion by sneaking off to concerts and drinking. I think the show does a nice job of pointing out Vanessa’s mistakes while still keeping it somewhat comical. I also found the twist interesting that Vanessa, the child shown to be very bright and driven in school, seems to be the most rebellious. This touch makes the show more realistic. Overall, I really enjoyed this season.
