Alice Upside Down: The Movie

Do you ever feel like every time you turn around, your life is being flipped upside down? Welcome to the world of Alice McKinley (Alyson Stoner of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN) who’s just moved to a new town with her father Ben (Luke Perry) and brother Lester (Lucas Grabeel of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL). In her imagination, Alice is cool, confident and popular, but in reality she feels like she can’t do anything right. Can Alice survive the embarrassments of being “the new girl”, and the miseries of Mrs. Plotkins sixth grade class? Penny Marshall also co-stars in this long-awaited first ALICE movie, based on the best-selling books by Phyliss Reynolds Naylor.

Dove Review

Alice and her father and brother move away from home for a fresh start, some years after the kids’ mother, and Ben’s wife, died. Alice is against the move and protests. She doesn’t like her new environment-at first. She dislikes her teacher Mrs. Plotkin and wants to be in popular Miss Cole’s class.

This story is a pretty good one, as Alice learns some life lessons, including that first impressions are not always accurate. Alice doesn’t want to see her father as a real person in the beginning, but she begins to change after she realizes how much he really does miss her mother. There are some humorous moments too and most teenage girls will especially enjoy the story, as it is told through Alice’s eyes.

We award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages, and wish to make note that young children might find it to be slow going. Teenage girls will enjoy it and laugh with Alice.
