Synopsis

Journeys to the East introduces children to the Chinese language through a fun and challenging adventure through ancient China. By using both English and Chinese, the DVD provides a bridge from an English-only environment to a Chinese-only environment. The DVD introduces words and sentences that children would encounter in everyday life so that there is greater opportunity for children to use the language immediately, thus reinforcing language learning. Our goal is to enable meaningful communication in Chinese. Once a word is introduced, it is used in follow-on dialog. Key vocabulary words are used over 20 times. Vocabulary words are set to fun sing-along songs and traditional Chinese children’s music. With each new challenge, the adventure introduces new sets of vocabulary. Your children will learn nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Before you know it, they are speaking simple sentences in Chinese to ask for some red grapes to eat! By setting the adventure in ancient China, your children will be exposed to a new and fascinating world that truly reflects some of the beloved characters and cultural icons of China.

Dove Review

This is a great educational tool to encourage young children the language of Chinese. In this day and age it is important to teach our children other languages. Take them on an adventure with Jason and Jenny to the land of the Dragon King. As they travel they will teach the viewer simple Chinese words such as numbers, colors and parts of the body. Also learn some interesting facts about China. The Dove Foundation proudly awards the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to “Journeys to the East: The River Dragon King”.
