Dove Review
A romantic story with a triangle is the main premise of this film. George (Paul Rudd) meets Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) on the worst day of each of their lives. George’s business is being investigated for illegal procedures and George’s reputation is on the line as well as his relationship with his father, played by the irrepressible Jack Nicholson. Lisa has just learned she did not make the final cut of the National Softball team and she is crushed. They somehow, in an unusual way, make each other feel better and soon it becomes obvious that Lisa will have to make a choice between two men, millionaire MLB pitcher Matty (Owen Wilson) whose sense of humor has charmed her, or George, whose off-the-wall candor and devotion to her and belief in her might be what she needs more than anything. In one scene, after George admits he’s currently unemployed and his business is being investigated in addition to having just broken up with his girlfriend, Lisa says, “You’re a real chick magnet, aren’t you?”
Despite some humorous moments in the movie, the content of the film includes very strong language and sex between an unmarried couple and we therefore cannot award our Dove Seal to the movie as a family-friendly film.
